PREPARATION 74; 5-Isopropyl-oxazole; <strong>[32968-46-0]5-Isopropyl-oxazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester</strong> (1.89 g) was taken up in a solution of 1N sodium hydroxide (10 ml) and ethanol (0.5 ml) and the mixture stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. A solution of 1N HCl (approx 9 mll) was added and the mixture stirred for a few minutes. A white solid crystallized out and was collected by filtration. After drying, this solid was taken up in quinoline (3 ml) and copper oxide (120 mg) added. The reaction was heated under vacuum, slowly increasing the oil bath temperature to 170 C. A clear liquid distilled out giving a mixture of the desired product and quinoline. This oil was then re-distilled at lower pressure (180 mBar) and temperature (70 C.) providing the title compound (260 mg) as a clear oil.1H NMR (400 MHz, CHLOROFORM-d) delta ppm 1.24 (d, 6 H), 2.96 (m, 1 H), 6.7 (s, 1 H), 7.7 (s, 1 H) |
