12.1 g (36%) With hydrazine hydrate In methanol 3 Synthesis of Thieno[2,3-d]pyridazin-7(6H)-one (IV-4) The 2,5-disubstituted acid side product was spectrally indicated as an impurity. A sample of the acid-aldehyde 41 (34.0 g, 0.22 mol) was combined with 32.7 g (0.66 mol) of hydrazine monohydrate in methanol and refluxed for 24 hrs. The reaction solution was concentrated in vacuo to a solid which was recrystallized from methanol to yield 12.1 g (36%) of thieno[2,3-d]pyridazin-7(6H)-one (IV-4). The NMR was consistent with the assigned structure.

HRMS (ESI): cal. mass C6H4N2OS [M+1]+ 153.0117, found [M+1]+ 153.0118, cal. mass C6H4N2OSNa [M+Na]+ 174.9937, found [M+Na]+ 174.9942.
