MTH2 (MutT Homolog 2) is a protein associated with DNA repair and prevention of replication errors. MTH2 is primarily located in the nucleus and features a domain related to DNA binding. This protein participates in oxidative stress responses and maintains the balance of the intracellular dNTP pool to prevent DNA damage. MTH2 is expressed in various tissues, especially higher in rapidly dividing cells. Mutations in the MTH2 gene can lead to increased DNA replication errors, raising the risk of cancer and other genetic diseases.
