89% | With hydrogenchloride; In 1,4-dioxane; at 50℃; | Step 1: 1 -(4-chlorophenyl)-1 -cyclopropanecarboxylic acid (600 mg, 3.05 mmol)was dissolved in MeOH (15 mL) to afford a clear colourless solution. 4 M HCI indioxane (2.5 mL) was added and the mixture was heated to 50°C for 20h. Thereaction mixture was concentrated to dryness. EtOAc and sat. NaHCO3 solution was added and the two phases were partitionated. The organic layer was dried over Mg504, filtered and the solution was concentrated to reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography eluting with heptane and a gradient of heptane/EtAOc from [100:0] to [85:15]. The product fractions were combined and concentrated to dryness to afford methyl 1-(4- chlorophenyl)cyclopropanecarboxylate Ex.28a (570 mg, 89percent) as colourless oil. |
