With ethanol at 20℃; 8.b Step 8(b): 5-(hydroxymethyl)-4-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (8-3) To a suspension of 5-[(benzyloxy)methyl]-4-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (8-2; 4.20 g; 19.2 mmol) in EtOH (84 mL) was added Pd(OH)2 (20 wt %; 2.02 g; 2.87 mmol) and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. Filtration through Solka Floe, and in vacuo concentration provided 2.33 g (18.1 mmol; 94%) of the title compound of sufficient purity to be used directly. 1H NMR (500 MHz, DMSO): δ 11.53 (s, 1 H); 5.51 (t, J=5.7 Hz, 1 H); 4.33 (d, J=5.8 Hz, 2 H); 3.17 (s, 3 H).
