9% Weigh 38.0 g (118 mmol) of 2,2 ', 5,5'-tetrachlorobenzidine in a flask, add 129 mL of 70 wt% sulfuric acid and stir at 50 C. for 1 hour. Thereafter, 1.90 mL of 8 M sodium iodide aqueous solution was added to the system, and after stirring at 100 C. for 1 hour, 29.0 mL (353 mmol) of crotonaldehyde was added dropwise over 4 hours into the system. After the dropwise addition, the temperature was kept at 100 C. and stirred for 18 hours.After allowing to cool, 170 g (3.03 mol) of potassium hydroxide was added to the reaction solution in an ice bath to make the reaction solution basic, followed by extraction with chloroform.The resulting chloroform solution was concentrated by distillation under reduced pressure and purified by silica gel column (developing solvent: chloroform). Finally, it was dried with a desiccator to obtain 4.67 g (11.1 mmol) of Intermediate (A-2) as a pale yellow powder. (Yield: 9%)
