42% With caesium carbonate In N,N-dimethyl-formamide at 60℃; for 15 h; A mixture of ethyl 3-iodo-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (17.0 g, 63.9 mmol), cesium carbonate (41.6 g, 127.8 mmol) and methyl iodide (6.0 mL, 95.9 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (200 mL) was heated at 60° C. for 15 h and filtered.
The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure.
The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, 100-200 mesh, 0 to 20percent ethyl acetate in petroleum ether) to give ethyl 3-iodo-1-methyl-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (7.5 g, 42percent) as a white solid and ethyl 5-iodo-1-methyl-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (7.5 g, 42percent) as a white solid, used as is in the next step.
