55% With methanol; sodium tetrahydroborate; at 0℃; for 2.25h; Step 1: 5,6-Dihydro-2H-pyran-3-ylmethanol 5,6-Dihydro-2h-pyran-3-carbaldehyde (0.49 g, 4.4 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (20 mL) and cooled to 0 C. Sodium tetrahydroborate (0.33 g, 8.7 mmol) was added portionwise over a period of 15 min. It was allowed to stir at 0 C for 2 h. The solution was then poured into water (30 mL), and the mixture was extracted with DCM (3x). The combined organic layers were washed with water and then concentrated to yield 5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-3-ylmethanol (0.27 g, 55%).
