60% With palladium 10% on activated carbon; hydrogen; triethylamine; In methanol; at 60℃; under 60301.1 Torr;Autoclave; To <strong>[98612-60-3](R)-5-(bromomethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one</strong> (3.0 g, 30 mmol) as a solution in MeOH (50mL) was added Pd/C (0.3 g) and triethylamine (7.0 mL, 50 mmol) and 1166 psi H2 (g)pressure was applied at 60 C overnight in an autoclave. The reaction was filtered andthe solvent removed from the filtrate in vacuo. The residue was purified by columnchromatography (normal basic activated alumina, at 1.0 to 5.0 % MeOH in DCM) togive Intermediate 18, (S)-5-methylpyrrolidin-2-one (1.0 g, 60 %) as a light yellow liquid.
