YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
51.3% To a solution of D-p-hydroxyphenylglycine (16.7 g) in 2 N sodium hydroxide (50 mL) was added a solution of copper sulfate (12.5 g) in water (100 mL). The mixture was stirred at 60 °C for 1 hr. After cooling to room temperature, 2 N sodium hydroxide (50 mL), methanol (50 mL) benzyl bromide (13.0 mL) were added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 hr. Resulting salts were collected by suction, washed with water and acetone and the residue dissolved in 1 N hydrochloric acid (300 mL) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. Resulting salts were collected by suction, washed with water and acetone and dried to give 13.18 g (51.3percent) of the compound (8-2).
