99% With iron; acetic acid; at 70℃; for 2.0h; 4-Chloro-2,6-dimethyl-3-nitropyridine (4.7 g, 25 mmol) was combined with Fe powder (4.24 mg, 75 mmol) in AcOH (40 mL). The mixture was stirred at 70 °C for 2 h. The volatile material was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was partitioned between EtOAc and H20. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel, eluting with 0-80percent EtOAc in petroleum ether to yield 4-chloro-2,6-dimethylpyridin-3-amine (4.0 g, 99percent). MS m/z 157.2, 159.2 [M+H]+.
