85% With hydrogenchloride; N-chloro-succinimide In 1,4-dioxane; water; acetonitrile for 0.5h; 4.1.6. general procedure six General procedure: To a solution of N-chlorosuccinimide (10 mmol, 4 eq.) in acetonitrile(0.5 M) at 0 °C was added 2 M a solution of hydrochloric acid (g) in dioxane (0.7 mL), followed by the selected isothiouronium salt (2.5mmol, 1 eq.) and the reaction left to stir for 30 min. Upon completion water (3 mL) was added and the acetonitrile removed in vacuo. The remaining slurry was then extracted with CH2Cl2 (3 × 5 mL) and the combined organic extracts washed with brine (1 × 7.5 mL), dried with Na2SO4 and the solvent removed in vacuo.
