91% With tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium(0); sodium carbonate; In ethanol; water; toluene; for 6h;Reflux; Inert atmosphere; Phenylboronic acid (3.1 g, 25.4 mmol), (6-chloropyridin-3-yl) methanol (3.4 g, 23.7 mmol) and tetrakis triphenylphosphine palladium (1.1 g, 0.95 mmol) were added to a mixture of toluene (75 mL), ethanol (25 mL) and 2M sodium carbonate aqueous solution (50 mL), and the mixture was refluxed under a nitrogen gas atmosphere for 6 hours. After cooling to room temperature, deionized water was added, extraction was performed with chloroform, and the solvent was distilled off using a rotary evaporator.The obtained crude product was purified using silica gel column chromatography (developing solvent: ethyl acetate) to obtain ((6-phenylpyridin-3-yl)methanol, 4.0 g, 21.6 mmol, 91%).
