YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
90% With potassium carbonate; at 90℃; Preparation 17a: 2-(2-phenylmethoxyphenyl)ethanol[00177] A mixture of 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenol (lg, 7.2 mmol), bromomethylbenzene (1.35 g, 7.92 mmol) and K2C03(2 g, 14.5 mmol) was stirred overnight at 90 °C. H20 was added, extracted with ethylacetate, purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (PE/EA=1/1) to afford the title compound (1.48 g, 90percent). [M+H] Calc'd for Ci5Hi602, 229; Found, 229.
With sodium ethanolate; In ethanol; water; (1) 2-(2-Benzyloxyphenyl)ethanol To a solution of sodium ethoxide (10.8 g) in ethanol (500 ml), [7768-28-7]2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethanol (20.0 g) and benzyl bromide (24.8 g) were added and the mixture was refluxed under heating for 2 hours. The solvent was distilled away under reduced pressure, water was added thereto and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with a 2M aqueous potassium hydroxide solution and a saturated brine and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled away under reduced pressure and the residue was subjected to silica gel chromatography (eluent; hexane-ethyl acetate=8:1) to give the subject compound (27.2 g). 1 H-NMR(400 MHz, CDCl3) delta: 1.60 (1H, t, J=5.9 Hz), 2.97 (2H, t, J=6.6 Hz), 3.87 (2H, q, J=6.4 Hz), 5.09 (2H, s), 6.93-6.95 (2H, m), 7.20-7.23 (2H, m), 7.39-7.42 (5H, m).
