Methyl 5-[(methylamino)methyl]-2-thiophenecarboxylate A solution of <strong>[67808-64-4]methyl 5-formyl-2-thiophenecarboxylate</strong> (1.58 g, 9.3 mmol), methyl amine (5.6 ml, 2N, 11.2 mmol) and glacial acetic acid (3.0 ml) in THF (30 ml) at 25 0C was treated with sodium triacetoxyborohydride (11.83 g, 55.8 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 18h. Aqueous 2N NaOH was added until the solution reached pH 5. The resulting mixture was extracted with Et2O (3 x 50 ml), and the combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), concentrated under reduced pressure, and subjected to flash chromatography to give methyl 5- [(methylamino)methyl]-2-thiophenecarboxylate as a white solid (650 mg, 41percent): ESI- MS (m/z): 186.0 (M+H+).
