Recombinant Human CST2 (C-6His, HEK293) is a human-derived recombinant Cystatin SA protein expressed in HEK293 human cells and tagged with a C-terminal 6×His tag. This protein belongs to the cystatin family 2, a subgroup of cysteine protease inhibitors, and is co-expressed with Cystatins S and SN primarily in salivary glands. It is mainly secreted into submandibular/sublingual saliva and functions as an inhibitor of cathepsin L, with potential lack of inhibition against cathepsin B and H. It is hypothesized to play a role in regulating periodontal tissue destruction.

Synonyms: Recombinant Human CST2 (C-6His, HEK293); Cystatin-SA; Cystatin-2

Biological Activity

Description
Cystatin SA is a member of family 2 of the Cystatin superfamily. Together with Cystatins S and SN, it is produced by the salivary gland and secreted largely in the submandibular/sublingual saliva. Cystatin SA inhibits Cathepsin L, but may not inhibit Cathepsins B and H. The functions of Cystatin SA are largely unknown. However, it has been suggested to play a role in the control of periodontal tissue destruction.
Protein Species Human
Expression System Human Cells
Tag C-6His
Protein Expression Interval Trp21-Ala141
Protein ID P09228
Endotoxin < 1 EU/µg as determined by LAL test.
Characteristics Lyophilized powder
Formulation Description Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution of 20mM Tris-HCl, 150mM NaCl, pH 8.0.
Reconstitution Method Always centrifuge tubes before opening.Do not mix by vortex or pipetting. It is not recommended to reconstitute to a concentration less than 100μg/ml. Dissolve the lyophilized protein in distilled water. Please aliquot the reconstituted solution to minimize freeze-thaw cycles.
For long-term storage, it is recommended to further dilute the product with a solution containing carrier proteins (e.g., 0.1% BSA, 10% FBS, or 5% HSA). For serum-free cultures or in vivo animal experiments where BSA, FBS, or HSA cannot be present in the cytokine preparation, trehalose may be used as an alternative carrier. Aliquots should be stored frozen at -20°C to -80°C.
Note: Low-adsorption tubes are recommended for aliquot storage, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. The dilution concentration for aliquoting should not be lower than 10 μg/mL, and the aliquot volume should be no less than 10 μL.
Aliquoted protein remains stable for up to 3 months when stored at ≤ -20°C.
