YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
With toluene-4-sulfonic acid; at 180℃; for 1h;Inert atmosphere; A 250 ml three-necked flask with distillation bridge and KPG stirrer was charged with 29.3 g of the hydroxyphenylcarboxylic ester methyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate (IVa-1) together with 15.6 g of 1-octanol and 0.2 g of para-toluenesulphonic acid. The flask was flooded with nitrogen and the mixture was heated to 180 C. and stirred for an hour. The flask was then evacuated and the methanol formed was distilled off directly from the reaction mixture while stirring under reduced pressure (10 mbar) using a distillation bridge. After cooling had taken place, 3.5 g of the benzofuran-2-one (IIa) and 0.9 g of the phosphite (IIIa) were dissolved in the resulting liquid hydroxyphenylcarboxylic ester.
