47% With sulfuric acid; In N,N-dimethyl-formamide; at 100℃; for 20h;pH 2; A suspension of <strong>[33142-21-1]ethyl 2-chloro-3-oxopropanoate</strong> (9.7 g, 52 mmol) in DMF (100 mL) was adjusted to pH =2 using H2S04. To the mixture was added 25c (4.5 g, 35 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at 100 C for 20 hours. The mixture was poured into H20, and extracted with ethyl acetate (100 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration and concentration in vacuo, the crude product was purified using Si02 chromatography, eluting with petroleum ether: ethyl acetate (100/1-10/1) to provide25d (3.7 g, 47%)
