81% With tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium(0); sodium carbonate; In water; toluene; at 100℃;Inert atmosphere; Step 1: A solution of 4-bromo-2-ethyl-1H-imidazole (1.0 g, 5.7 mmol), <strong>[139911-27-6](4-fluoro-3-methylphenyl)boronic acid</strong> (0.97 g, 6.3 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (0.33 g, 0.3 mmol) and aqueous Na2CO3 (2 M, 10 mL, 20 mmol) in toluene (10 ml) was evacuated and then refilled with nitrogen (three cycles). Resulting reaction mixture was then allowed to stir at 100 C. overnight, cooled down to room temperature, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give a black residue. Column chromatography on silica gel, eluting with MeOH/DCM provided 2-ethyl-4-(4-fluoro-3-methylphenyl)-1H-imidazole as a colorless oil (0.95 g, 81%). MS m/e: 205 (M+H)+.
