84% Synthesis of bis(4-t-butylphenyl)iodonium 5-iodooctafluoro-3- oxapentane sulfonate9.93 grams (0.0233 mol) of 5-iodooctaflupsilonoro-3-oxapentanesulfonyl fluoride (Synquest) was taken in a flask in water and excess amount of KOH (0.0473 mol,2.65 grams) was added and the resulting mixture was heated under stirring at 800C for six hours. After cooling the reaction mixture to room temperature, 5:1 v/vTHF/water solution of bis(t-butylphenyl)iodonium acetate (0.0233 mol, 10.56 grams) was added dropwise over a period of one hour with stirring. After the addition, the reaction mixture was further stirred for additional 3 hours at room temperature. Upon completion, the target compound bis(4-t-butyl phenyl) iodonium 5-lodooctafluoro-3- oxapentafluoro sulfonate was extracted and purified in a manner similar to that ofExample 1. Yield was 84% . Melting point (capillary) 118-122C.
