77.0% In trifluoroacetic acid; 6-Chloro-N-(4-methoxybenzyl)pyrazin-2-amine (5.00 g, 20.0 mmol) was dissolved in TFA (25 mL) and the reaction mixture heated for 2 h at 60° C. TFA was removed under reduced pressure and reaction mixture was diluted with 10percent sodium bicarbonate solution (100 mL) extracted with ethyl acetate (3*30 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure to give a residue which was purified by CombiFlash (REDISEP®, silica gel, 24 g, 35percent EtOAc/petroleum ether) to give 6-chloropyrazin-2-amine (2.00 g, 77.0percent). LCMS Condition B-39: retention time 0.230 min, [M+1]=130.2. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta ppm 6.91 (br s, 2H), 7.71 (s, 1H), 7.81 (s, 1H).
