After cooling, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. Diethyl malonate (1.60 g, 10.0 mmol), 2-methoxyethanol (15 mL) and 4.37 M sodium methoxide in methanol (2.30 mL, 10.1 mmol) were added and the mixture refluxed under nitrogen for 18 h. After cooling, the mixture was poured into water (200 mL), washed with ether and acidified to pH 1 with 6 M aqueous hydrochloric acid, then extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracts were washed with water, brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue triturated with ether and the solid collected, washed with ether and dried to give the title compound (0.528 g, 54%) as a pale yellow powder. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta ppm 1.22 (s, 9 H) 3.50 (s, 6 H) 4.78 (s, 2 H) 5.46 (br. s., 1 H) 6.68 (d, J=8.34 Hz, 2 H) 6.69-6.72 (m, 2 H) 7.16-7.22 (m, 2 H) 7.44 (t, J=8.46 Hz, 1 H) 11.50 (br. s., 1 H).

YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
40% With dihydrogen peroxide; In water; at 120℃; for 20h;Sealed tube; General procedure: A 15 mL tube was added 2-aminobenzamide (1 mmol), benzyl amine (1.5 mmol), and a stir bar. Then H2O2 (30 wtpercent in H2O, 5 equiv.) was added by a syringe at room temperature under open air. The tube was closed and kept at 120°C for 20 h. The conversion and yield were determined by GC and GC?MS using hexadecane (0.1 mmol) as the internal standard.
