55% To a solution of 9-bromo-10-methoxyanthracene(304 mg, 1.06mmol) in dry THF (5 mL) was addednBuLi (1.58 mol L1 in hexane, 0.80 mL, 1.26mmol) dropwiseover 2min at 78 C. After stirring at 78 C for 1 h, tribenzocycloheptatrienone5 (320 mg, 1.25mmol) was added tothe suspension, and the mixture was warmed to 24 C. Theresulting solution was stirred at 24 C for 1 h, and then dilutedwith water. The whole mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 threetimes. The combined organic layers were washed with waterand brine, and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. After filtration,the solvent was concentrated under reduced pressure.
