With sodium hydroxide; tetrabutylammomium bromide; In water; toluene; STR118 A solution of <strong>[84478-72-8]2-chloro-4-fluoro-5-aminophenol</strong> (10.0 g, 61.9 mmol), cyclopentylmethane sulfonate (10.3 g, 62.9 mmol) and tetrabutylammonium bromide (0.51 g, 1.58 mmol) in toluene (50 ml) was prepared in a 500 cc three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer. Then, a 48% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (30 ml) was added slowly thereto, followed by stirring while heating at 80 C. for 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was cooled to room temperature, water (150 ml) was added thereto, and the mixture was extracted with toluene (50 ml*2 portions). The organic layers were combined, washed with water (100 ml*2 portions), and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain 2-fluoro-4-chloro-5-cyclopentyloxyaniline (13.5 g, 59.0 mmol, 95.2% yield, HPLC purity: 98.6%).
