YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
With copper(I) bromide; In methanol; ethyl acetate; toluene; for 16h;Reflux; Inert atmosphere; General procedure: To a solution of compound 6 or 7 (1 eq.) in dry toluene, an excess of NaOMe (25percent v/v in MeOH) (>10 eq.), CuBr (1.2 eq.) and a small volume of ethyl acetate was added at RT to improve solubility. Then the deep blue colored solution was refluxed overnight under a nitrogen atmosphere. After completion of the reaction (TLC), water was carefully added and the reaction mixture extracted with dichloromethane. The combined organic layers were dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. Purification of the crude reaction mixture (using hexane/dichloromethane mixtures as eluent) afforded the title compounds 8 and 9 in good yields. Usually the pure products were isolated along with other methoxy derivatives (mono-/di-) and dibenzofuran in smaller quantities (<5percent).
