Stage #1: 2-chloro-4-fluorobenzaldehyde; methylamine In methanol at 60℃; for 2h; Stage #2: With sodium tetrahydroborate In ethanol at 20℃; for 1h; 4.1 2-Chloro-4-fluorobenzaldehyde (0.500 g, 3.15 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (10 mL) and a solution of methylamine in methanol (2N, 3.15 mL, 6.30 mmol) was added. The resulting mixture was sealed in a tube and heated at 6O0C for 2 hours. The solvent and excess methylamine were removed in vacuo and the residue dissolved in ethanol (10 mL) and cooled to 0°C. Sodium borohydride (0.155g, 4.09 mmol) was added in portions. The resulting mixture was stirred 1 hour at room temperature. Ethanol was removed in vacuo, and the residue dissolved in dichloromethane (15 mL). This solution was washed with 2 % sodium hydroxide solution, saturated sodium bicarbonate and saturated brine, and then dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated to give the title compound
