Stage #1: N,N-dimethyl-formamide With trichlorophosphate at 0 - 5℃; Stage #2: 6-bromo-2-(4-methylphenyl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine at 80℃; for 6h; Procedure for the synthesis of 8-methyl-2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (2a): General procedure: Vilsmeier-Haack complex was prepared by adding POCl3 (2.3 mL, 25.4 mmol) drop-wisely to a dry RB containing DMF (1.85 mL, 25.4 mmol) maintaining temperature at 0-5 oC. Later, a solution of 1a (1.5 g, 6.35 mmol) in 10 mL of DMF was added to the resulting complex at a stretch. The resulting solution was stirred at 80 oC for about 6 hrs. The container was cooled to room temperature and quenched to ice cold water while stirring. The solid obtained was filtered, washed with excess of water and then purified by column chromatographic technique using ethyl acetate and hexane (1:9) system.
