YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
194 mg; 125 mg With sulfuryl dichloride; In dichloromethane; at 0℃; for 1h; At 0 C., 342 mg (2.54 mmol) of sulfuryl chloride were added to a solution of 300 mg (2.42 mmol) of 3-methoxyphenol in 2 ml of CH2Cl2. The reaction solution was stirred at 0 C. for 1 h, and water and CH2Cl2 were then added. The phases were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted repeatedly with CH2Cl2. The combined organic phases were washed with a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried with sodium sulfate and filtered, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was adsorbed on RP silica gel and separated chromatographically by MPLC on RP silica gel (gradient: H2O/acetonitrile). This gave 125 mg of 4-chloro-3-methoxyphenol and 194 mg of 2-chloro-5-methoxyphenol.
