96% With copper diacetate; sodium carbonate; In toluene; for 24h;Reflux; To a 50 mL round bottom flask containing toluene (25 mL) was added 4-(1-naphthyl)benzaldehyde (1 g, 4.31 mmol), 4-trifluoromethyl benzamidine hydrochloride (1.93 g, 8.61 mmol), copper acetate monohydrate (0.17 g, 0.86 mmol) and sodium carbonate (0.91 g, 8.61 mmol), magnetically stirred and heated to reflux for 24 hours in air. After the reaction was completed, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, extracted three times with ethyl acetate and washed three times with water. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated and evaporated. The crude product was purified on a silica gel column eluting with petroleum ether/ethyl acetate (10:1). 2.37 g of a white powder of the objective product I-1 was obtained. The yield was 96%.
