88% With Ti0998Pd0002; potassium carbonate; In methanol; at 120℃; for 24h;Inert atmosphere; General procedure: A mixture of iodobenzene 1k (112 mg, 0.5 mmol), 4-methylphenylboronic acid 2a (102 mg, 0.75 mmol), K2CO3 (138 mg, 1.0 mmol) and Ti0.998Pd0.002 (24 mg, 0.5 mmol) in MeOH (2 mL) was stirred at 120 C for 24 h under Ar using octagonal stirring bar. The resulting 3a was obtained >99% yield by using GC, was isolated by column chromatography (230-400 mesh silica gel, n-hexane : ethylacetate = 100:1) in 94% yield (79 mg).

With potassium carbonate; In ethanol; water; at 80℃; for 3h; General procedure: In a typical procedure, aryl halide (0.5 mmol), phenylboronic acid (0.75 mmol), K2CO3 (1.0 mmol), EtOH/H2O (v/v = 9:1, 5.0 mL) and catalyst (0.5 mol% Pd) were added in a 10 mL round bottom flask. The mixture was vigorously stirred at 80 C for required time under air atmosphere. After the completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was extracted with ethyl acetate (2× 5 mL). The combined extracts were dried with Na2SO4, filtered and analyzed by GC (P.E. AutoSystem XL) or GC-MS (Agilent 6890 N/5973 N).
