86% General procedure: NaOtBu (98% purity, 206 mg, 2.1 mmol) was dried by a vacuum pump for 30 min at room temperature. To a solution of NaOtBu in THF (3 mL) was added DIBAL-H (1.04 M, 1.92 mL, 2.0 mmol) at 0 C under argon atmosphere and the obtained mixture was stirred for 1 h at room temperature. Then, ethyl decanoate (200.32 mg, 1.0 mmol) in THF (4 mL) was added to the solution at 0 C, and the obtained mixture was stirred for 2 h. Then, DIH (1.13 g, 3.0 equiv) and aq NH3 (concentration: 28.0%-30.0%, 2 mL), were added at 0 C, and the obtained mixture was stirred for 3 h at room temperature. Then, the reaction mixture was poured into saturated aq Na2SO3 solution (10 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (15 mL×3). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4. After removal of the solvent under reduced pressure, the residue was treated with flash short column chromatography on Silica gel (eluent: hexane/ethyl acetate=9:1) to afford decanenitrile (119.5 mg, 79% yield).
