YieldReaction ConditionsOperation in experiment
52% General procedure: Sodium (0.092 g, 4.0 mmol) was added to dried methanol (25 mL), and stirred until complete dissolution was achieved. 2-Cyanopyridine or substituted 2-cyanopyridine (24.9 mmol) was then added. The mixture was stirred for 30 min. The N(4)-disubstituted thiosemicarbazide (24.9 mmol) was then added in small portions over a period of 1 h. A further quantity of methanol (25 mL) was added and the mixture was heated under reflux for a minimum of 4 h. Slow evaporation of the methanol produced the crystals of the desired product.(See Supplementary data)
