90% With potassium hydroxide; In ethanol; for 1h; A solution of KOH (13.78 g, 85percent, 209 mmol) in 80 ml of ethanol was added to a solution of methyl 1-cyanocyclopropanecarboxylate(25.64 g, 205 mmol) in 100 ml of ethanol and stirred for 1 hour. After that, the mixture was evaporated, dissolved in 200 ml of water,washed with 30 ml of chloroform, acidified with hydrochloric acid upto pH = 1. Then, 30 g of NaCl were added to the mixture and theformed solution was extracted 6 times with 50 ml of chloroform. The combined organic layer was dried over anhydrous MgSO4 andevaporated in vacuo to give the desired product (20.60 g, 90percent); 1H NMR (200 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta 1.73 (m, 4H), 11.08 (s, 1H).
