| EXAMPLE 5 Preparation of N,N,N',N'-tetramethylsuccinic diamide Fifty grams (0.42 mol) of succinic acid and 100 grams (0.75 mol) of DM-CARB were mixed directly in a rocker bomb and the mixture heated at 150 C. for 15 hours. Gas chromatography of reaction mixture indicated a 92 percent conversion. Distillation gave 48.5 grams (67.1 percent) yield of N,N,N',N'-tetramethylsuccinic diamide b.pt 115-122 C./0.06-0.77 mm Hg. Several of the reactions of esters and DM-CARB were carried out under atmospheric pressure. Reactions carried under pressure were mixed directly in the vessel. |
