99% With hydrogenchloride; water In toluene at 20 - 110℃; Inert atmosphere Step B. 4-Benzylmorpholine-2-carboxylic acid. To a solution of 4- benzylmorpholine-2-carbonitrile (20.2 g, 100 mmol) in toluene (60 mL) was added 6M HC1 (100 mL, 600 mmol). The reaction mixture was ref uxed at 110 C for 1.5 h and then cooled to rt and stirred for 18 h. The solid was filtered to give the title compound (22 g, 99percent) as a white solid.
